My Vocal Philosophy
Celebrate Every Vocal Achievement
This mantra is at the core of everything I do and encompasses everything I believe in as a singer, performer and vocal coach. My top priority is to ensure that you feel confident in your voice, and more importantly, in yourself. To build that confidence, we “celebrate every vocal achievement” — big and small. Whether you challenged yourself with a “silly” exercise, triumphantly hit that one high note you’ve been striving for, or fearlessly tried out your very first voice lesson, it’s all worth celebrating. Being proud in these moments is when the magic happens and your confidence develops.
Lessons Designed Around You
Every singer is unique with different goals and backgrounds. That’s why I don’t follow a one-size-fits all approach or methodology. Your lessons are completely designed around you. It is your time to explore — whether you’re looking for voice lessons, vocal coaching, songwriting, or a mix of it all. While some singers come to lessons to learn all about technique and prepare for shows or auditions, others come to try something new or out of their comfort zone. No matter what, lessons are always a fulfilling and memorable experience.
Freedom From Perfectionism & Comparison
Striving for perfection and comparing yourself to other singers will rob you of the true joy that singing brings. As singers, we have the opportunity to connect with others through music that can heal, unify, and bring hope and happiness. Audiences will not recognize if you are slightly off pitch on a note. But they will recognize how your singing makes them feel. And remember how singing makes you feel. Be inspired by other singers, but know that only your voice can create those special moments for you and your audiences. Show your voice — and yourself — some love, patience, and gratitude to help achieve a mindset free of perfectionism and comparison.
Don’t Think, Just Sing
Sometimes it can feel overwhelming — like there’s so much to remember when you sing. This inevitably leads to anxiety, self-doubt, and tension in your voice & body. While learning healthy technique is always a goal, so is learning how to get yourself in the right headspace that will halt your overthinking and make singing more meaningful. To get out of your head, get into your body. When you’re singing, try shaking out your hands, doing some stretches, walking around the room, or playing with a small object (stress balls, fidget toys, water bottles, or anything else you have around will do the trick.) It truly works wonders. Don’t forget — if it feels good, you’re good.
You Got This
Singing is one of the most invigorating, vulnerable, and powerful things you can do. After all, your instrument is a part of you. When singers find confidence in their singing voice, they find confidence in their inner voice. Your singing journey offers endless opportunities for personal, spiritual, and emotional growth. So enjoy the ride. You got this!
